Remove all unused meshes / textures?

I was working on a project and, in the beginning, I imported a large (70-some MB) mesh and had saved it. The project file became that size, and since then I had deleted the mesh from the project and switched it out with a 45 MB file, but it remains at the original size.

Also: I tried the "compress scene" plugin and it ran out of memory before it could even finish the compression. I had tried to put every texture in one image, and it worked, but for some reason it still showed every texture in the texture list. Is that intentional?

Also: how do I remove the default textures from the project file? I click "Remove unused textures" and they stay.

These default textures are not in your project, but in the editor, and it needs them, but they won't affect your project size.

About the mesh: It should go away once it isn't used anymore. Are you sure you are not referencing it anywhere anymore? Maybe you've overlooked something? Another scene maybe?

Aha! I found out what the heck was making the original mesh so darn large... Some seemingly low-detail trees were a majority of the filesize.. I deleted most of the trees from the terrain (I ripped the terrain from an existing game by using 3D Ripper DX) and that made the file size go from 75.2 MB to 15.4! That's one heck of a drop. Thanks for letting me know about the default textures / the fact that they're needed.
