A new version of CopperCube has just been released: version 1.2.0. The main new feature is now support for WebGL via CopperLicht. Happy downloading: http://www.ambiera.com/coppercub...
Detailed change list:
- CopperCube now supports a third publishing target:
Next to Flash (.swf) and Windows (.exe) it is now also able
to display scenes using pure JavaScript, via WebGL. No
browser plugin is now necessary anymore. Although this feature
is not yet supported by much browsers, it will be in the near
future. See http://www.ambiera.com/copperlicht/browsersupport.html
for details.
- Quake 3 level import now improved: Extracting a .pk3 file
and loading the .bsp from \maps will now usually work.
- Fixed a bug causing execution to stop when
running a JavaScript action locally causing
a SandBox Security Error.
- Fixed a bug in the .irr exporter, causing bounding
boxes of selected scene nodes to appear in irrlicht.
- The documentation .html has been made more clearly
readable.
- Included nicer Windows 7 style icon

Oh, great "webGL". Another 3rd-party 3D renderer that doesn't work or requires downloads nobody is going to get.

Until it is included in all browsers, with no custom installs or configurations and such, I do not think WebGL will do much for me.
I would mostly like to see improvements concerning Flash z-order issues.

WebGL is not third party. It is part of HTML.

I wonder how soon HTML5/WebGL is likely to be actively working in all browsers, including IE? I have not spent much time looking, but nothing I have seen has offered any insight as to when this will be the case. The articles read as hopeful and interested, but not clear on what can be expected. Where I know Flash is here today and running in most browsers.
If WebGL is not set up and running by default, my concern is that people will not bother to turn it on. I guess that as part of HTML5, WebGL will not need to be enabled/configured/turned on? If that is true it will be very cool.

I guess it's the usual chicken-egg problem: If no developers start creating applications using webgl, it will be ignored. But if they do, it will start to be a fixed part of html. So I thought to create something to use it. :)

I agree. Anything that enables rich 3D graphics in web pages should develop - that's going to be the future of the internet.

Still,
There seems to be a problem with CopperCube and/or irrEdit. When i export to irr file from CopperCube i get the meshes in irrmesh format. When i load the irr file with irrEdit the program freezes. I thought the meshes are too big, so i deleted the large ones - with same results. I now have an 170kb irr file with a few .irrmesh files (some 150kb). Every time i try to open an irr file with irrEdit the program freezes. It's weird that i get the same results using the import irr demo example.

Hm, that's interesting. I don't think the problem is that the file is too big, there must be some more severe problem.
But it should work with irrlicht, at least. (It does, doesn't it? It is also possible to read your last sentence, meaning that the irrlicht example freezes as well)

No, that is the problem. Both irrEdit and the example from irrLicht freeze. Sometimes if i leave it for a few minutes like that it comes back to life, only to render at ~20-30fps instead of the normal few hundred fps.

I suspect it is some error in parsing the irr file or when loading a mesh. The same irr file loads ok if some of the textures are missing.

Ok, I'll have a look at this for the next release. But for now, at least you could try to fix this yourself by simple debugging Irrlicht. And it should be even possible to fix this in irrEdit if you need this urgently, because the source of the irrlicht.dll is included in irrEdit as well.

Exactly the same problem as:

Another one....
Add a button "Drop on floor". Maybe push to left/right wall also. So many times you try to set the object as close to the floor as possible. This will speed up scene editing.
