Is it true that Coppercube7 will no longer be free? |
||||
|
i doubt that |

Will there ever be a version 7? |

Latest I have heard is that Niko will release one last update and then outsource all the editor source code so anyone can then edit both for free whenever they like. This appears to be within a month or two....maybe bit more than that... So it will be free and then after the editor is release then everything will be free - all post processing and everything.... It would be best to maintain a single Github repository so everyone can update and add to the latest version rather than multiple versions floating around... |

This is fantastic news! Niko's decision to open-source CopperCube is undoubtedly the best choice. Without this move, CopperCube risks fading into obscurity. By making the source code available, the community has the opportunity to keep the engine alive and relevant. |

Not sure where the rumor is coming from, but that's not going to happen, sorry. But I'm really actually working on a next update with some small improvements so that you can customize it yourself more easily. |

Thanks @niko to clear the rumours out that CC is not going to be opensource. Really excited for the next CC update :) |

Thanks for the good and free engine Niko! I'm excite for the next update! |

Interesting to see... It'd be interesting to see what customization options will be made available. I fail to understand it (what could really be done in that context) but I'll keep my eyes on it. It's a tall order, but I wish the engine had a visual fidelity comparable to Unreal Engine 3. It'd be more achievable / doable than chasing photorealism like UE5 has, for sure. The one thing I really want to request, Niko, is - PLEASE! Please add frustum / occlusion culling. That is a massive thing that CC is outright missing currently, and it really screws with performance if you're using a map which is one huge mesh. I'm a weirdo so deep down I wish you'd restore DirectX 8 rendering and also add irrlicht 1.2's OpenGL 1.2 renderer. Idk, I just LOVE low-fidelity graphics renderers. Sorry for the ramble lol. Take care, Niko. Just know you've got some loyal fans of this wonderful piece of software. Irrlicht on its own is a masterpiece of an engine, and CopperCube legitimately makes it shine. |

Sorry for the offtop, j9907 nice to see you back:) Drop me a line or two in discord if you have time. |

Hi Niko. I would ne need 2d rotatable objects for gauges. Some kind of wavy water. Please let Milkshape ms3d files in the next version a life in Copper Cube. Don't throw them away. Thanks for all. Chrisz |

Niko, Is there anything to be done about the light limits? or is that just part of the fixed function pipeline? Does it vary by hardware? I know 8 was the limit in Dx7.1 ( from using blitz3d forever) Is it the same in 9+? I know there are limits in the forward renderer, and games with tons of lights are deferred render. My main request would be better multi-texture , or just open and let us access the Texture Op's. (I can brute force a lot of effects with enough texture passes ) Just_in_case , When passing to the shader, does it have to create a light in CC or could it just be like a cube or sprite to get the co'ords, and the light data (color,brightness, spec ect , can be in the shader)? I know you said something in another post about the shader lights causing problems after a certain amount, and needing better multi-thread? cpu or gpu cores threading? Sorry for the Novel..lol Im still CCubing. :) Sam |

Making coppercube open source would be a very good thing for the community, just like Blender, which has grown a lot since its 2.40 version. However, I imagine that coppercube is Nico's "Sweet Child O' Mine", so I imagine that is impossible! However, we could think about supporting the creator of this Engine that we love, I imagine Coppercube to be 100% free but with partial value in the sale of games created on it, I think that would be a way out. But for that to happen, coppercube would have to update itself to get close to the most used Engines on the market. example. Create a layer (space) for 2D games and a layer for 3D. And improve a little more in terms of lighting or shaders. The rest of the coppercube is very good! With the support of the community we can now see a very beautiful EDITOR, with Flat icons, and a dark version. Now it’s much more beautiful for streams on social media. I myself have a class of students teaching coppercube. This Engine has everything to be one of the best! |

While we're at it, NICO, it wouldn't be possible for every major coppercube update to change the coppercube "splash screen" with an image from a game made on the Engine, in which case there could be a community contest to decide the best render. |
