Last year, I started a thread regarding password protecting a PAGE within a new RC website that I created. The page was remodeled from an existing years old website that had many files located in a server password protected sub-directory. I wanted to have the RC page password protected along with the many files in the sub so that users could log-in once, see the page, and open/download the PDFs and other files in the sub. Apparently, that was not and is still not possible. I had to create a second RC site that is located in the sub and along with that, fully encode all of the URLs for the PDFs that would point to the old existing protected sub on the server. LOTS of work!

Now, another new site is being created with same issue, I created RC site, created one password protected page with 2 users as a test, and added test files that were automatically added to the rc_images file. (I see no way to have then entered by RC into sub directory, ) Password works OK - I log in and can download the test files. Problem is that the full URL for the opened file can be copied and shared with persons who are NOT registered with passwords and they can open the files !

As a way around, a did a similar thing as years ago - I copied the PDFs to a new sub-folder that was server password protected and that works OK but will require users to enter password for ALL files. NOT user friendly.

There should be a NEW way to protect all files in the password protected RC page without the owner having to do all of this extra coding, etc.

Any suggestions? NICO, please add this to your 2-do list of updates.

There is no easy way to achieve this otherwise - you would for example alternatively need to have all your files in a database and let the website manage the users passwords so they can access these from there.
Alternatively it would be possible to have RocketCake have the files put into a private directory not accessible from outside and have a php file managed access write them out - this would probably be easier for you if something like this would be implemented in RocketCake, but you would still need to set the file access flags on your server correctly.

Not sure if any of those methods would be better for you.

Your alternative would be preferable. Please add to your list of items to implement for a future revision to RC!
Thanks!
