I'm always surprised that it's users who come up with innovative ideas when the original author of the engine has completely abandoned it. |
It's a really awesome effect! It looks great, even with with just the default cube texture, lol. Yeah, such a shame coppercube wasn't open sourced so all the problems can be fixed and bring it in line with other engines. So sad it's been left abandoned. |
That's right. Coppercube must indeed be open sourced,it would have been so better by now, because there are dedicated coders around |
is it possible with this to make 3D building details using a 2D texture - maybe as a displacement map shader - or is that a completely different thing to how this water/wave/ripple example is working? |

Man, I’m so tired of seeing posts like "such a shame CopperCube wasn’t open sourced", "CopperCube must be open sourced" or "the original dev has abandoned it". Where are you guys even getting the idea that the engine is dead? Nikolaus Gebhardt literally dropped version 6.7 not that long ago, and it’s a solid update with an awesome feature letting you use custom binaries, which basically means you can rewrite the engine’s core however you want. If you’re so into open source, grab the source code for your CopperCube projects and go make your own engine from there. CopperCube is great as it is, and it only needs a few minor fixes, none of which are deal breakers. And if you don’t like it, there are dozens of other engines out there, including plenty of open source ones. I’m not trying to offend anyone, it’s just that I keep seeing people claim the engine is abandoned or needs to be completely changed. It is what it is, and you just need to learn how to use it properly. At the very least, learn how to write JS scripts for it before you start worrying about messing with C++ source code. |

Just so you get the picture: “Nikolaus Gebhardt has been credited on 26 games with 187 companies, including Electronic Arts, DICE, Valve, EA Orlando, and EA Sports.” Do you really think he has tons of free time to keep working on an engine that, let’s be honest, doesn’t exactly bring in much money? And that’s on top of all the other software he’s actively maintaining, like RocketCake and WebsitePainter, which are way more popular simply because there’s more demand for that kind of software. Nikolaus gave us an amazing tool—you just need to actually take the time to understand it and learn how to use it. CopperCube is a niche engine for people who want to make games with minimal time investment and a super clean, easy-to-use API, which is exactly why people choose it. But if you feel CopperCube’s features aren’t enough for you, there’s always Godot and tons of other engines out there you can jump to. |

You are not wrong, wing, i agree with you but by the way have you worked on any project in coppercube |

no, he is wrong, because he forgets no one asked niko to get in the market of game development tools. he has customers, dummy. |

bSikes, look, I’m not a game designer, so I don’t have any “finished projects” on CopperCube to show off. But as a programmer, I’ve written various mechanics with it, and honestly, I think CopperCube’s minimalist API is straight-up genius in how simple yet functional it is. Right now, I’m working on a simple tile-based 3D editor using CopperCube, and I can honestly say it’s way easier to work with than Unity. Writing code for CopperCube is pure bliss, because when you’ve got around 100 built-in API functions, it’s so much easier to learn than something like Unity, where you’re dealing with thousands of functions and classes. (For the record, Unity is the only other engine I’ve worked with apart from CopperCube, excepting Java and C++ libraries)... |

Wow, that's amazing, i want to contact you privately, where can i reach you? Discord? Gmail? |

[quote]no, he is wrong, because he forgets no one asked niko to get in the market of game development tools. he has customers, dummy./quote] So what? I’ve bought the paid version of the engine too, and I’m perfectly happy with it. Nikolaus doesn’t owe us monthly updates - or even updates every six months. As it stands, CopperCube already has everything you need to do serious work with it, so honestly, with comments like that, you’re kind of showing who the real “dummy” here is. |
Sikes sorry, but no, I’m not really the “social” type, so to speak. But for now, you can find me on the forum. |

Ok, that's understandable, so have you made any scripts worth sharing to us, every programmer in coppercube needs to be well acknowledged in my opinion because you guys make the engine better, if you don't mind, do support us with your scripts ![]() |
