Feature suggestion: Anaglyph Red/Cyan 3d

Imagine if we could enable 'anaglyph 3d' mode on CC cameras.

- Coppercube would render each frame twice, from 30mm either side of the camera location.
- The left camera would render a buffer with the Green and Blue channels removed.
- The right camera would render a buffer with the Red channel removed.
- The two channels would then be overlapped into the framebuffer.

Users with standard Red/Cyan glasses would see everything in stunning stereoscopic 3d.

Double render might slow things down a bit, but since human stereoscopic vision doesn't perceive any difference beyond about 10 metres, this could be optimised.

Possible Niko?

I'm currently looking into something similar, as you can see from my just posted tweet: https://twitter.com/Ambiera/stat...

Adding something like this afterwards would be a possibility, yes!

Great!

I might suggest though, that everybody has a pair of 3d glasses lying around, but very few have an Oculus Rift (yet) - shouldn't you do it the other way around?

Adding VR support is technically a bit more complex, yes, but once this is in, adding other support like for red/green glasses is very, very easy to do. The other way round is not so easy. We also have a few requests for Oculus Rift support already, but not as many for red/green glasses.

Niko, is there any publicly-available technical information about stereo camera setup for Oculus Rift VR?

Having lined up stereo cameras for Hollywood visual effects in the last few years, after decades of stereo photography as a hobby, I'm more than a little interested whenever the topic of stereo (real or CGI) comes up.

I think if you register as developer in the Oculus website, you can access everything, including the SDK.

Good suggestion. The Overview PDF is interesting. I can even run the Tuscany demo in 3D on my 3D monitor though, of course, not in VR, but I can get an idea what they're doing with the stereo.

Be sure to also get the "Oculus Best Practices Guide" PDF which is mentioned in the Overview (bottom of page 13) but wasn't available until after the SDK was assembled.

http://static.oculusvr.com/sdk-downloads/documents/OculusBestPractices.pdf

It's an interesting read for anyone looking into VR since it deals with the unique design issues that game designers will need to consider for VR games.

Here's my Coppercube game running as Anglyph 3D (red/cyan) using the Depth 3D plugin for reshade (by BlueSkyDefender).

It's completely free and took less than 3 minutes to install and adjust the depth settings...
