Importing 3D meshes

I'm not a 3D artist and most of my 3D assets are from old and present TGC products as the licensing allow me to use most of them in my choice of engine.

For some reason CC having a hard time to import the 3D models coming from TGC while the TGC tools have no problem importing them. In many case I get an error message in CC saying import is failed or format is not supported or the mesh get imported but it does not look right especially in case of animated meshes.

I know for a fact TGC tools are using the open source Assimp import library. And it works great, I have no trouble importing 3D assets in to TGC tools so I would like to recommend to use this library if it not the case already:

Thank you.

Also, I have recently purchased AssetForge:
https://assetforge.io/

But unfortunately when I import the meshes directly from AF to CC, the colours doesn't get imported. I managed to work around it by importing the meshes in to Blender and export it in to 3ds and dae format. It is solved the problem but raised an other. When I switch to dynamic lighting, or generate a lightmap, the shadowmap applied on the mesh in CC cover the colours...

This is a pretty awesome tool it a shame I can't use it after all :(

Which file format are you using? FBX?

TGC assets are in X format normally. The AssetForge assets are in OBJ and FBX.

You can find some free TGC assets here to try:
https://github.com/LeeBamberTGC/...
Static meshes are normally okay, mostly I have problem with animated meshes like characters, weapons.

Regarding AF, other engines able to import the mesh directly from AssetForge as-is with the materials and also apply lighting and shadow on it.
Here is an asset I have exported from AF so you can try:
http://free hosting expired

I also asked the developer of AssetForge to add the option to bake the materials on to png and jpg images when export to make it work in CC. Not sure if he cares. Didn't reply but maybe because of the holidays. Will see.

Thank you

Hi niko.

Did you have time to look in to my problem?
Seems like the dev of AssetForge simply ignore my problem and TGC assets are not compatible. Or maybe old, I believe there were different version of the .x format and the free TGC assets are definitely the old version.

Is there anything you can do to improve compatibility in the future or there is no fix?

Thank you.

Ah, CopperCube uses its own X importer, yes, that might be the problem. For the next update, I try to improve the FBX importer, which will probably also automatically makes it possible to use the assimp X importer as well for animated meshes, let's see.

Go here and d/l directx 9 meshwiew
https://marshtownmadness.com/act...

Run the .x model through it. It does work. I have done it. I got many tgc models to work in coppercube. You will have to scale the models though
