I have all items set to dynamic lighting. I have a third person character controlled by keyboard. I have several scenes and in all scenes, the character does not throw a shadow at all. There is no checkbox for a animated character's CastShadow item (or at least for mine) found in most assets, lights, etc and therefore, no shadows. How do we give our characters shadows. It makes everything very unrealistic and makes the game look like it was made in the 1990's. Mike |

Doea your light scene node has cast shadows enabled... And the realtime shadows chexkbox is enabled in the root scene node? |

That's what it was. I had deleted the 'sun' in each scene not realizing it was used to cast shadows. I inserted a main directional light and that did the trick. Thank you. Mike |

That said, shadows are wonky at best. Any advice on lighting setups to produce the best shadows? Also the shadows are way too sharp - they need to be feathered a bit to be believable. Any way to feather (blur) the edges of the shadows? Mike |

To be fair, shadows in general are a royal pain to get decently setup and even then, it's iffy at best! I hope to that some sort of automatic shadow generation thing can be done when the DX11 thing comes in... It MUST be doable since Skyline Game Engine, an engine with a PBR/DX11-based renderer, automatically generates and casts shadows when you import models, and the results are gorgeous. |

@j9907- Yes, but what's the use if Skyline's end result looks less than stellar. I had to make a choice to stop using it since they are a LONG way off from the engine being in a ready state. Shame since I really liked the engine, but in the end, I just could not get over how poor the final result was after compiling. It will likely be a very long time till they are truly out of beta.
