importing objects - texture

Hello,

When I'm importing objects (3ds, fbx or obj is what I've tried), the texture of the object becomes white.The original texture is lost. Is this how it should be? Or am I doing something wrong?

That typically means the texture isn't being loaded properly (hence why it's loading the default white one). What format are the textures in? Typically most formats can be loaded easily, but make sure the textures are in the same directory as the model itself (which I'm sure is the case for you, but still. just wanted to say that).


If all else fails, then by all means contact the developer (goes by the name "niko" on here) at his email address which can be found at the "Contact" sub-menu in the "Support" tab at the top of the screen and, if you can, send him the model and see if it loads for him. If it doesn't, then he can usually try and find a fix or suggestions on what to do to fix it.

Same happens with me all the time even if the texture is jpeg or any other supported format by Coppercube.

I think it's a bug

It all depends on object's format & texture/material data. Make sure your textures & materials are in sync or, for some formats, delete materials and leave only texture data.

For example: on my B3D static models (with textures on first UV & lightmaps on second UV) I don't have any material data & they load correctly. On my animated FBX models I have to sync textures & materials in order for Copper to load them properly.

Thanks for the answers...I thought it's as simple as downloading a model and loading it in CC. It seems I have some learning to do regarding 3d modeling and animation as well. Do you know a good place to start?

Some models can be stubborn, sadly!

I learnt all I know by myself. All self-taught. I simply installed Blender and learned how to use it. Yeah, crappy answer, but that's what I did.

The model import/export practices are always a jungle :) It all depends on a model's format and destination software you are exporting to. Blender is a good start if you want a free program for importing/exporting/modifying/tweaking & re-texturing.

You should experiment with export settings & always use Google to find out about other people export practices. At one point I've lost over two days trying to export from Blender to a new FBX format and, once I gave up, found a jpg example of settings on Blender forum in less than 5 minutes :D

@iov try decreasing the resolution of your textures... Coppercube doesn't support high resolution textures... Also place your textures into the correct directory if they are not... Most of the time placing the textures to same directory as of your 3D model works fine...

If you are using .obj format make sure .mtl files are also there...

Coppercube supports most of the textures format. So it shouldn't be a problem you can always convert your textures to your desired format by using third party image converting tool.
Or if you want to reduce size of an image you can also use.

Ambiera's image size reducer software.
