I can usually figure this stuff out myself, but I'm stumped. I want to add a feature which allows the player to switch to a first person camera and play the game in the character's perspective. How do I do this?

Every few seconds change position of the fps camera relative to third person camera... And when you want you can execute the command switch active camera and make the third person player invisible......
Also if you are dealing with behaviors like proximity and other scripted action which has ccbgetscenenode from name then you have to attach those or make references to your fps also...
Hope that works...

I think I'll forget about this feature actually. It isn't working. The mesh I'm using doesn't work right with the camera at all. I have to set the third person camera view position to -110 for it to line up properly. Otherwise it points at the ceiling. It's something wrong with the .X importer....
