is it possible to create a JavaScript that allows you to insert an image into a "plane" and that maintains its proportions?
I have to insert rectangular images into square plane. also the image once inserted for a fact of proportion leaves some margin to the sides, it is ok equally provided it is in proportion

I'm not sure I understood what you want to do but if you want to have 1024/512 texture on 1024/1024 plane than why don't you just place 1024/512 texture on top of 1024/1024 texture and than place that texture on a plane?
If texture is suppose to be on a transparent plane than just make problematic parts of a texture with zero alpha.
