What programs can be used to make new reflection maps?

I have some materials which could benefit from reflections but the default one is too dark. How was it made? I'd like to use something free (Gimp preferred)

Well I'm not too happy with textures I'm using for reflections but you can check them out and see if you like how they work:

For hard reflections ('metal' geometry around windows, in elevator & small towers in main hall) I use that smoky CC texture (default_particle.png) and for doors and shields I actually use the same texture but modified in gray tones and with lower transparency.

I could upload that modified textures if you think you could use them. They are, however, not really displayed good in desktop D3D builds, OpenGL is rendering them a bit better but still somewhat off.

I use Paint.NET, it's free, fast and very practical:

BTW for me game sometimes loads without all assets so if you see that walls are missing just refresh the page :) Don't know why that is happening, it could be a Newgrounds / Coppercube issue.

Well, I want a subtle effect (for a hardhat on a character who's in a sewer level, specifically!). I have it somewhat where I want it, but it's still a bit iffy...
