Welcome Fellows! I was away from the forum for long time! Guess why. Because just recently (probably a week ago) I changed my Game Engine to Unity 3D. Well, most of you are already familiar with as it is most popular game engine. I am really happy! But what I am concerned about is.... I think I wont get a community like you guys ever again! This community is perfect. You always helped me when I asked! I like CopperCube too, as it is the most easy to use software with bunch of functions currently available on Earth! Here are some my first impressions of Unity 3D. >Easy to use just like CopperCube. All features are visible at a first glance! >More functions than CopperCube. Well every software has.... >Easy scripting. Unlike CopperCube you can just write the script and drag it to the object and Done! Just that simple!!! As I mentioned earlier that I like CopperCube, I have it still installed on my PC. As I worked on Unity, I thought to create some type of artwork (not really artwork). When I created it looked good but right then i thought I should create the same scene with CopperCube and see the results! Here are the results: https://imgur.com/a/98I9Srm Don't judge my Unity's artworks! I am just beginning! They are poor compared to the ones created by others. Please scroll down to bottom! More will be coming soon! And again I will miss you guys! |

Unity is nice, though I don't like the lack of a dark theme for the Free edition... It'll be sad that we lost another fellow member, but you must use what works for you so I can respect such a decision! :) |

To be honest, CopperCube is still in my heart till now.. But, i hate the slow development.. :/ So, currently, i use unity sometime to see my capabilities in coding, shader, etc. And now, i only create some weapons with 3DS Max 2009. Here's a snapshot of my weapon: Wish we can get this graphic quality with CC soon! |
For me, the graphics are 99% what I need for my project, but the lack of character shadows with lightmapped meshes and the slow lightmapper is annoying me and is holding back my project... I am thinking of buying a book on how to make shaders just so I can learn how... I bet that CC's graphics could be made nicer if a skilled shader programmer really worked at it :) |

I bought CopperCube but have to let it go when I cannot rotate around selection when editing the game. Only people that deals with LARGE scenes and having to select and edit multiple characters at various part of the map often can feel my pain. If you game mainly consist of your character at the origin of the stage of course you will have zero understanding of big scene multiple main characters situations. |

I deal with large scenes and never once did I need such a pointless feature! |
Sorry, that means your scene is not big enough....this is the MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE that makes or break editing and experimentation. |

Just so I can understand your request better: Do you mean being able to rotate the editor camera around the selected scene node? I'd guess this would be so you can do a more precise placement. In that case I can see that being reasonable. I'd guess MAYBE an editor plugin could be written for this purpose, but who knows... I personally would like a WASD-style camera movement feature since, at the moment, I've grown a bit tired of the mouse-based navigation... S2Engine's viewport navigation is excellent. Niko, take notes. haha |

I think @bracer is talking about rotating selection of multiple nodes/objects together. I usually have 90% of the level geometry completed in outside editors & just import everything in Copper Cube. I did have the same problem with rotation once when I decided to keep main level geometry collision-free & create simple box-based collision for player. I had to rotate every single box manually because they didn't rotate around selection-axis. |

Well, with unity you can add realistic post processing effects like bloom, grains vignette anti aliasing fog motion blur and even more! You have no limitation as you have multiple programming language support in unity. Unity is far better from coppercube. |
See, I'm currently looking at this other engine named "Gamestudio", which uses a simple language named Lite-C. I need something better for my project, sadly... |

I was into learning Unity but when i get time i am gonna add more "Unity VS Coppercube" artworks. So you can already expect one to be posted. Anyways this forum really seems dead! Some new beginners are coming although but now this not crowded like before. |

Ok, As I mentioned earlier, here are my 2 new "Artworks" one of which is a mini shot I rendered in Unity. ThickForest: Sunset (MiniShot): https://drive.google.com/open?id... The FPS is low. Just ignore that. :P |

Nice... The biggest visual limitations which I face with CC is the lack of character shadows with lightmapped meshes + a multi-threaded / multi-core lightmap calculator. Not to mention if you want really sharp / high-res shadows you'll face a terrible "grid" artifact which shows up in the distance. What a shame! GI's terribly slow too... Very annoying; especially when you wait 3 hours for it to calculate a small area and the light is too bright on one spot... Time to re-calculate and wait another 3 hours... |
Thanks! Yes, you are absolutely right! That "grid" artifact is really serious drawback. Yeah that happened to me as well, Long ago when I used CC for my projects, I always had to use the lowest setting possible to make it faster and I also had to re-calculate it again and again. If you make the resolution just a bit higher it shows "999 minutes". Wait Wut? CopperCube is only for the beginners (like me) who want to start game designing and after they learn basics it's completely useless for them..... |
