Find the object and set its text properties。

Sorry, not sure you understood the question. I am wondering if i could make a 2D overlay show the current value of a variable. so if the variable = 40 it would display 40. it would have to work like a health counter though

yes -
on the 2D overlay, click on Behavior tab
click the "+" sign and add 'every few seconds do something'
set the "IntervalMS" to 10
set "Action" to 'Change 2D overlay text"
set "change which Overlay" in the drop down menu to which overlay you are using
set "Text" to '$your variable name$' ( if your variable is X then it would be $X$) you can also add words to the text - such as 'the count is... $X$'

it will read and update your variable every 10MS - so when the value of your variable changes - it will change in the overlay
