Coppercube already has a built-in terrain editor with lots of features.

In CCB you can't make more plans only one plan can be created or add in scene and edit. You can't edit and add more terrain plans

True, you can only have one terrain per scene but you can make the it as large as you want.

You can also paint them with an infinite number of textures to alter the way it looks (mountains, snow, grass, mud, river banks, concrete, metal etc - all on the same scene.

You can also add static models to the terrain for special features.

You can switch between scenes with different terrains too.

Why would you want to have more than one terrain per scene?

actually, you can save your terrains as prefabs and can add them to your scene that way. so even thought you can only build one terrain, you can add more "terrain" prefabs to enhance your game play area.... but of course - it slows your game

True, but when you import several terrains as prefabs, they cannot be moved at all.

Each new terrain is fixed in exactly the same 3D position: ie "0,0,0".

True - I like to import height maps of decent size so big enough for the player to walk around and get lost hopefully...the size depends on png height map resolution from memory...

If not big enough for you try importing static mesh sections as the ground and just combine together with each its own texture...can have larage map sizes this way but most likely high texture memory requirements - may need to reduce the texture resolution a bit for this to work right.

There are programs out there that can handle this exact thing...
