Are gaming companies using free 3d model and why and. Can it be used without any problems? |

For static mesh then sure they do but very limited amounts as most free stuff is often too basic, sometimes buggy and without good textures. The main reason not to use them is due to copyright infringement and being sued basically. Unless given permission for use of the 'free' asset with a licence that allows for commercial use then no-one will use it for commercial games. It all comes down to money - like almost everything these days... |

Look at the asset's license, if it fits what you need, download the asset and try it in your game to see how it performs. There are countless free 3D assets - all have different licenses which are clearly stated before you download them. If you can make your own assets, it's more fun but more time consuming - it's very common for companies outsource their work - free or paid. I bought a high-quality, royalty-free animated model from sketchfab for $25 because it's way better than the one I made for myself - had it been free, I certainly would have used it. Suits my game perfectly well and can be used commercially. I tried the demo model first (no animation) and then purchased the full model after I was happy with the quality of the animation previews. Personally I've also used free assets, made my own where I can, bought a couple of animated models and even ripped my 3D landscapes from Google Maps and reconstructed them in blender. I'm not looking to sell my game commercially so I doubt I'll ever run foul of copyright issues. |

For example, Renderbot (3d models store) published some of their models for free so that artists who can't buy can also work with quality models. Download page - https://renderbot.com/3d/free/ |
