🔎︎

Here is a pre-alpha version of a first person parkour game I've been working on; Codename: DROP !

The game still needs more work before it's ready for a public pre-alpha release, but I decided to do a private test to gather some feedback.

Please give it a try if you're interested, and especially let me know if you find any bugs, glitches, or have any suggestions, Thank you :)

Download / Learn more:

or you can download it from Dropbox:

Notes:
- Make sure to check out the game's itch page to learn more and see some gameplay gifs (from before the visual revamp)
- If you're having performance issues, make sure that you're playing the game on your dedicated graphics card
- Make sure to install the bundled font
- The game can be a bit hard at first, but you'll be flying through the levels once you get the grip of controlling your character
- This game needs more levels, so if you are interested in making levels you can send me a message on discord https://discord.gg/e6TpKsq, you'll be listed as a level designer in the game's credits of course :)

Hello Smn Mhmdy.

Thank you for sharing your nice project.

I played thirty minutes with it.
I like the textures and the shaders with the neon colors.

I visited all levels (including the "tutorial").
Of course I know that it is still a pre-alpha version, but I may say that it is very difficult to jump on more than two or three islands.

:-)

I am really addicted to this and managed to complete Level 1, and have managed to reach the near larger platform of level 2.
this is a really addictive game but can be frustrating at the same time if you don't get the controls.

Initial levels should be much easier so that the player won't get frustrated otherwise after playing for 30+ minutes he/she will probably gonna uninstall it if they doesn't manage to learn the controls and patterns to reach the end of the level.

the gameplay is really good, once you learn the position of the platform and the pattern of how to reach to next platform then it will be much easier. you need to memorise each level in order to complete it. Mouse movement also plays a very important role.

overall am loving it.

Congrats, very nice game!

++Decent music and lovely retro shader!

++I love the colours, music and movement.

++Seeing the player's arms when running is a nice touch.

--The platforms sometimes look a little confusing - it's hard to see the platform edges clearly against the background. I know that's the style, but I think scaling the platform textures slightly smaller would make it look better?... or maybe try adding a neon-glow effect for the platform edges using lighting, a particle effect, or fogging?

--The bounce effect is nice but I think it's maybe a little too pronounced. I feel that the bouncing would be a nicer effect if it was more subtle or not last as long. I realize that it's a major feature of the game but I found it a bit distracting (but that's just personal preference I guess). I incorporated a bounce in my game for when the player enters the screen - the bounce height diminishes with each bounce.

🔎︎

--[BUG] Sometimes the screen glitches and turns upside down due to the camera bobbing - not always but it did happen a few times during play if I left the player stationary.

🔎︎

Other than that, it's a really nice game so far! Looking forward to it's development.

@marcw @just_in_case Thank you for the feedback, Yeah I need to work more on the difficulty curve for sure.

@veganpete Thank you for you detailed feedback, I'm glad you're mostly enjoying it :) I will be working more on the visibility as the development goes on so thanks for brining that into my vision. The bouncing is actually the opposite of the one in your game (which I really want to try out if you have released it) so with each (successful) jump your next jump height will get increased. and lastly about that flipping camera bug; I'm aware of that but it's so hard to debug since it sort of happens at random and I haven't found a way to reproduce it yet, but hopefully It will be fixed in the later versions :)
