"CAS-EVAC"
(a military term, meaning: Casualty-evacuation)

Updated playable version (several bugs-fixed)...
https://drive.google.com/file/d/...

🔎︎

Used no coding, over a year of daily 2D art, 3D modeling, sound effects, voicing. Inspired by the 128k Retro-game called "Amaurote" (played on a ZX Spectrum). A 3rd-person shooter/rescue game featuring aspects from many of my favourite retro-games. Uses a mixture of home-made, pubic-domain and professional assets.

Already Done:
Retail box-art, brand logo and screenshots.
25 Huge, unique, vector-coloured 3D Cities.
Hundreds of models, textures, visual effects, music and sounds.
Combination of 2D and 3D sounds with volume dubbing (fading in/out).
Utilises 2D overlay animation and billboard animations.
Each level uses a different city-layout with individual land-marks.
Distinct gameplay elements: locate hive/kill enemies/rescue survivors.
Computer-generated natural voice speech-synthesis.
Roads, Buildings, Water-hazards, Search-Lights, Reflective floors.
Complex (multi-part), animated models.
Accurate (proximity-based) footstep sounds.
Health-bar depletes when hit, increased by collecting crystal power-balls.
Damaged player, puffs-smoke during low-health.
Giant insect enemies (wasps) with basic AI and natural movement.
Basic random Thunder/Lightning effects.
Player's walk-speed is slower than enemies but can "run" faster than them.
Enemies can shoot animated projectiles at the player.
Basic NPC survivors with interactive animations.
Introduction and death animations.
Enemies will seek, follow and attack the player.
Killed enemies will remain dead but will respawn on level restart.
Player can fit into small places or "run" to escape an enemy.
Level-Select system with spoken-word instructions and controls.
RADAR warning pulses when enemies are nearby.
Real-time updated, multi-purpose LASER-pointer/Navigation-system.
Long-range Pulse-cannon with animated 3D exploding projectiles.
One-shot kills each enemy but can also accidentally kill survivors.
"Bouncing-bomb" Bullets bound across the map.
Animated building damage (shattering walls with falling rubble).
Retro 2D Animated Explosion and shock-wave sprites.
Basic fading of ambient light, from daylight to dusk.
Basic fading of fog-intensity, from foggy to clear.
Automatic sequential toggling of new mission objectives.
Player's Levitation-Beam will beam-aboard nearby Survivors.
Persistent City-damage with 3D debris, smoke, and fire.
Dash GUI with continually updated Stats and Info.
Counters for Lives, Survivors, Enemies, City-Damage, Health.
Collect Health and Ammo Power-Ups.
Player drops into city from sky with a small bounce effect.
Drop-ship circles above enemy hive at map's centre.
On-screen text, 2D animations, and a voice explain what to do.
The Central Hive is defended by Enemy Queen and angry Swarms.
Working target-seeking, Air-launched LASER Guided Bomb.
3 minute, ticking countdown-clock for bomb-timer.
Enemies can avoid Water-Hazards that will kill the player.
Optimized assets, balanced between size, quality and performance.
2D overlay displays retro scanlines and a rounded screen-edges.
Basic Pause game.

Lots of bugs to fix and many new ideas to add.

Any feedback/ideas welcome. Thanks.

Hello VeganPete.

Thank you for sharing the demo of your great game and congratulations for its quality.

That quadruped robot is superb. It is the highlight of your nice game.
beautiful animations of that robot and of the wasps.
Excellent work with the sound and music.

I tried to neutralize some of those wasps while shooting bullets on them from a distance of a few meters away, but I couldn't do it. However the attack with those bullets work fine when a wasp is just above the robot.

Your listing of already done tasks in the making of your game is impressive.

A lot of work put into your game that great to see - well done.

Here is a few things I think could help:

- Do we get an options page to adjust any settings ? - might also need a ESC to options or menu items also.

- When not moving I would stop the walking animations playing (and walk sounds).

- The enemies seem to be able to attack you when further away than you can shoot them (which only seems to be when above you (havent tried the long shot yet)...maybe have the flying bugs shoot some goop at you rather than just being close to you to cause damage...

- I would have some easier to use controls than L & P - like SPACE or CTRL or maybe ALT instead. A mouse control would be cool also using the 2 mouse buttons would fit perfectly.

- How about using dynamic lighting and directional light ?
maybe try using higher texture sizes for the buildings also ?

- Some humans were in places I couldnt get to and others were killed when I didnt even see them (must have walked over them). I would have auto pickup of them once in range instead.

Looking good though, cheers. Robo

Just another thought - how about calling your game instead to Operation SRD (from search rescue destroy) ? - its shorter and easier to understand..

@Veganpete I played your game last night, The game Idea is good, a lot of effort has been put into this. But there are tons of bugs everywhere. they really need to be fixed.

improvements you can add to your game:-

I loved the way the Player sinks in water and those fishes, goes around. It was really smooth but I wasn't sure if am gonna dive in the water there.. there should be some sort of warning or something like that. It seems like a walkable area to me and I unexpectedly was dead due to sinking in water.

It will really look much better if we can somehow rotate the body of the protagonist alien robot. It looks really stuck to see that beam of Red lases coming from his eyes is tucked into one direction only, I love the way how the Red beam changes to green. So the addition of different beam colors was a really good idea.

As said by @Robo you should Implement the same thing which you had done for WASD keys, walking animation, and sound doesn't stop if cursor(Arrow) keys are used to play the game.

most of the feedbacks for adding enhancement to your game is the same as @Robo like the one about controls shooting and all.

I wasn't able to find any Humans however I managed to kill almost every single bee and some beehives. So adding a radar or hud which displays the location of human survivors will be really nice.

There are so many little additions that make the game looks much better like I love the Airship roaming here and there in the sky as if it was searching for the survivors and all.
And the explosion when the Bullet collides with the buildings.

However it needs a lot of polishing. There are so many bugs in the game.

bugs:-

No enemy will be able to kill you if you press and hold down space. they just don't give you damage and you can easily kill them by pressing the shoot button while holding down space.
Somehow makes you Immortal.

Using Laser beam and don't release the button and if you press Space and then release the L button then the laser beam never stops, it will run continuously.

After destroying beehives, Queenbee never Flies away or gets killed or disappears and stays there in the same state forever.

Jumping is really bad ( I don't know if the jump is a feature or it is just a bug) when you hold W and Space together the player does jumps but it is really bad. and sometimes it doesn't jump at all.

Sometimes when the game Restarts The health hud doesn't show up.
Also sometimes the player respawns with very little health and sometimes the game just fades and restart again.

Sometimes ammo doesn't fire any bullet.

Overall I liked the concept since the very beginning of this game. I really liked the Concept of climbing over the buildings. When the game was in its initial stage. I liked the bullet that goes in a parabola. If we can adjust the direction and height of the bullet then it would be a great addition.

Hope you will add more functionality to this game and fix the bugs.

Thanks for taking the time to test it and thanks for all the feedback everyone! Really helpful and inspiring. Fixed some of the major bugs now...

I tried to neutralize some of those wasps while shooting bullets on them from a distance, but I couldn't do it. Thanks! - Fixed.

Do we get an options/menu page?
Thanks. Yes, there's now a nice mission-select/options page (not included in the demo).

When not moving I would stop the walking animations playing (and walk sounds). Thanks! Fixed.

The flying bugs should shoot some goop at you rather than just being close to you to cause damage. Thanks! - Fixed.

I would have some easier to use controls than L & P - like SPACE or CTRL or maybe ALT instead. -Thanks, I'll add a menu option to redefine/change the controls.

A mouse control would be cool also using the 2 mouse buttons would fit perfectly. Thanks! - Fixed.

How about using dynamic lighting and directional light? -Thanks! Fixed.

Maybe try using higher texture sizes for the buildings?" Thanks! All the textures will have post-effects in the final game.

Some humans were in places I couldn't get to. Thanks! I'll play-test it to make sure they're all accessible.

Others were killed when I didn't even see them" -Thanks! -Fixed.

I would have auto pickup of them once in range instead. -Thanks! -Fixed.

How about calling your game instead to Operation SRD (from search rescue destroy)?" Thanks - I'll possibly consider changing the name at some point.

Game Idea is good, a lot of effort but there are tons of bugs everywhere, they really need to be fixed. -Absolutely agree! I'm constantly working on it. Quite a few of the bugs people mentioned are now fixed.

There should be some sort of warning for the water. Thanks! - Fixed.

It will really look much better if we can somehow rotate the body of the protagonist alien robot." Thanks! The LASER is actually a compass which points to the survivors (turns green when a survivor is nearby).

I love the Airship roaming here and there in the sky as if it was searching for the survivors. Thank you! The Airship does actually hover over any survivors it finds.

Using Laser beam and don't release the button and if you press Space and then release the L button then the laser beam never stops. Thanks! - Fixed.

After destroying beehives, Queenbee never Flies away or gets killed or disappears and stays there in the same state forever. Thanks! I'll fix it; she's meant to burn in the fire.

I really liked the Concept of climbing over the buildings. When the game was in its initial stage. Thanks, me too! I'm definitely going to bring the climbing ability back into the game better, hopefully better than before!

I liked the bullet that goes in a parabola. If we can adjust the direction and height of the bullet then it would be a great addition. Thanks! Fixed (direction is aimed with a cross-hair).

Hope you will add more functionality and fix the bugs. Thanks! Of course, I'm working on this almost every day. I've fixed most of the bugs already and have got many ideas I'm going to add.

Perfect feedback - thanks everyone! Really appreciate the help.
