Is this forum dead or something... seriously no-one is interested in this plugin except for hadoken ?

it was my experience people would jump at things offered for free ( many dozens of downloads) but when I tried to sell something... forget it! and like you just said, it seems this forum is all but dead. only a very few people comment on here anymore. I would guess CC has fallen to far behind the times. There are too many better alternatives these days - CC isn't really being used. I myself haven't even opened it up for several months. And I really liked using CC... oh well, "the times they are a changing"

In my opinion Coppercube is a very good 3d Game Engine and it has a small, but amazing Community.

Well yes, I agree CC is a very good game engine... but I do believe it has fallen way behind the times. From the graphics to all logic, it just doesn't produce the game dynamics that makes a successful kind of game it todays world. People just aren't interested in playing the kind of game CC can produce. (the look and feel of the game) And like I said, there are way better game engine alternatives... even Game Guru (Max) has pulled way ahead of where CC is at now. And Niko doesn't seem to want to
do what it would take to bring CC up to new levels.

Well, I really don't mean to come here and knock CC or this community. It is truly a great engine for what it does, and I enjoyed using it as I did... I just don't see much of a future for it as it stands today.

@count2rfeit, I agree with you, but Niko can't really improve this engine if he will work solo. Niko needs to move the game engine to open source or CC community need to recreate engine functions.

In my opinion Coppercube is a very good 3d Game Engine and it has a small, but amazing Community.

-> exactly, although Nico might be too busy with other projects or not able to contribute regularly as the only solo developer, but in the background there are some really hardworking and helpful community members who are happy to share their knowledge to constantly expand CopperCube in terms of features and teaching. For that I am very grateful and feel comfortable here.

I also think that making CopperCube fully OpenSource could be a great step forward. On the other hand I'm amazed at what already can be done with CopperCube. For me together with scripting CopperCube leaves nothing important to be desired at the moment.

Unity certainly has more glamour, but drives like a heavy coke truck whose wheels are forced to slow down by online constraints, over-commercialization and account obligations. By that I mean the unity editor.

Finished Unity projects can be impressive, but they always feel kind of clunky. If I wanted to switch to a game engine with Unity-like graphics and stuff, I'd rather choose Godot, which is also more lightweight and has more the spirit of freedom like CC.

Besides, so far I experienced GameGuru as an extremely slow asset flipping joke not willing to install on non high-end systems. (And if it installs on your high-end system it's still boring slow.)

Finally I could write about many other 3D game engines we can find nowadays, (e.g. see: gamefromscratch.com) but please keep one thing in mind:

You won't play better out of a sudden on a 10k Gibson electric guitar if you wouldn't be smart on a one-thousand Fender model.

just my 2cents for tonight ;-)

oh come on now, the sound of a Fender doesn't even come close to a Gibson ES 335... just kidding.

Your point is you can't compare oranges to apples. CC is one thing, other engines (such as Unity) are something totally else. It's not fair to say CC doesn't stack up to more complicated engines, because it isn't made to. And you are right.

But that was also my point... the quality of game CC can make doesn't compare to what people want today, makeable by other more modernized engines....

But like I said earlier - I don't want to put down CC or the community. I enjoyed it very much. I only meant to reply to Robo who started this thread by selling a new plug-in and commented that no one seemed interested. What I meant was, people are not disinterested in his plug-in, they just aren't interested in paying for it. At least that was my experience

ok, well thanks for the comments guys and thanks count2rfeit for your honesty.

If someone cant value what others do then I prefer not to give it away if they dont want to pay a miserable $1 or $2 for it...that just me and Im old school I guess. This is the way I was brought up to value what others do and a small token of appreciation is expected actually...
If no-one is intersted paying after a while will release for free - but not for a while...

I dont do these plugins/behaviors for the community only anyways but because I want to use the code in my game so its not wasted.

Check my pretty cool texture terrain sampling for auto changing walking sounds - coming soon...

I still enjoy this engine...I purchased both of Robo's assets...

They are great...

The community has really pulled together to make a lot of functionality work nicely

I think it's fair to charge a donation for your plugins Robo.

The snap-to-grid plugin will surely be handy for a lot of people. I was impressed by the work you've done with it in the showcase video for the plugin and I like the tutorials you've uploaded in the past.

Personally I don't need snap-to-grid yet because I'm only using the terrain editor and the room editor. All my assets are just plonked down and aligned by eye as they don't really need any precision placement but I'll happily purchase the plugin as a gesture of support and encouragement for your CC contributions.

Needless to say, if there are ever any other plugins that will help my CC workflow, I'll happily purchase them. On a side-note, if you do eventually periodically decide to offer them for free, please make sure you add a "donate" button and I'll make a restrospective donation if I ever download them for free in the future... and please keep up the good work!
