Javascript Sidebar...

So I'm trying to create a sidebar in RocketCake using the general outline here:

https://www.w3schools.com/howto/...

And I can sort of get it working by putting in the style stuff as additional CSS and then inserting the rest as an HTML box on the page, but I can't seem to get it to collapse any of the "main" part of the page no matter what I do with massaging IDs and whatnot. That is to say, in their example, the text of the page shrinks down as the sidebar grows. But my own Rocketcake content just gets overwritten?

Hmmm, wondering out loud if it's an issue with different z-indexes? I'll try that later and see...

Anyone able to help a friend out here and help me wrap my head around this?

Cheers!

Depends on how you added the elements into your page. From what I see, you need to have two containers or div next to each other and the bar needs to know about both. Depending on how you did it, maybe something was missing.

I did try to create just a basic page with a single container and then the sidebar. I put the CSS in by right clicking on the index.html in the file list and editing the HTML from there, and then the rest from within the container. I'll try again, but it didn't seem to work to shrink down the container as the sidebar expanded. If I still have trouble and also still want to pursue it, would you rather I post a link to a test site, or send you the .rcd privately? Are you (or anyone) willing to work with me to suss this out?

Yes, please send a .rcd and I'll take a look at it.

Unless there is really the need for having the page content move aside and re-wrap when the sidebar is opened, one can find a much easier solution. See a RC test site here:
http://www.4hundert.de/share/sid....
Sidebar and page content have their own container each, and there is only few extra code needed. Since this forum swallows certain characters and code strings there is no use in quoting the code here. Instead, download the sidebar test rcd here http://www.4hundert.de/share/sid... and see the ...

- Open Menu Button Additional Attributes
- Menu Container Additional CSS Styles
- Close Menu X-Button Additional Attributes

Replace 'container_xyz' with your menu container's actual div ID. Note, this div ID is different on each page. If there are lots of pages, you better put the menu container on a masterpage. Then there will be just one div ID for the menu container.

I was close to just giving up on the responsive main section, but Niko sent me an updated .rcd file and it works a charm actually! Much thanks to Niko - what great support for a great product!

I also agree that I was leaning towards just having the sidebar flow over top of the content, but I'm sure my client would prefer their text and pretty pictures to remain visible if possible.

Cheers!
