I've noticed that with my custom voxel models everything starts to chug with way less assets than it would normally take to do that any ideas on how to optimize the models?

Check the poly count of your models and try reducing them in a program such as Blender if needed.

After Blender...

What I did:

Import the model. Go into Edit mode. Do Merge By Distance. Go back into Object mode. Add a Decimate modifier. Choose Planar. Click UVs. Apply it. Done.

Just noticed I sent the wrong pics.

Note: you might need to join some of these voxel models together to make it easier to decimate. Also when you add the Decimate modifier and then click Planar, you might need to use Material as opposed to UV depending on if the model has a textures or not. Probably could get the tris down even more with a bit more work. You're welcome.
