What is with shade ? it is free in the "Unity Version"

you can export as fbx and it have all tools for creating game assets ,(moddeling ,rigging, animation), but not the features for CG artists

Then use UU3D for converting

I love 3D Coat. It is one of the best things I have ever bought (along with Coppercube of course)

Here's another one for the Pipeline for level creation:
Deled

Never paid much attention to it before but I really like it after giving it a whirl. It is a Brush based Editor with light Mapping which exports to loads of formats. It is also completely free.
The gallery examples are pretty impressive.

So...
After looking into iClone 5 Pro in a bit more detail, I am now convinced that I need it for characters!

Upgrade from 4 pro is pretty reasonable ($119 USD) and there is also a nice discount on 3dxchange pipeline ($299 USD).

That is $418 USD (£277 GBP in my money) for an excellent pipeline. I can re-use animations and content as a lot of them are royalty free and I can import my own models to animate them easily.

I can use it for my own projects and I will also be able to generate additional revenue from client projects as my time frames will be dramatically reduced.

I could also sell my more generic characters and make money that way.

Fairygirl; have you used this workflow with Coppercube? I saw your thread on converting FBX to X.

Niko; Is FBX support planned for Coppercube?

Cheers Guys...

I have convinced myself I need the full iClone shabang and I just need a little push.

I've also looked into it a lot too. Iclone 5 with 3d xchange pipeline is on my wish list and will likely take the plunge in the next few months.

I've used Mixamo too but for the price and quality of animations plus flexibility iclone wins. Nothing comes close to iclone.

My advice would be to get iclone even if coppercube doesn't add fbx support.

I've successfully converted iclone characters into .x models using ultimate 3d unwrap and the result is totally fine in CC.

Ed.

Thanks Ed,

I think you are right.

I just keep coming back to iClone and really think it has an awesome feature set when compared to anything else out there.
I can use it to make initial characters, modify them in 3D Coat and Silo take them back in, animate them and convert to .x with Deep Mesh or Cararra for Coppercube usage. I can just slightly modify the stock animations to make them unique and I can also import motion capture data from Kinect.

I usually like making everything from scratch but it also means that certain things (like animation) can take forever. The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that this is an essential purchase.

I charge £25 per hour for design work so it will only take a short amount of time to make the money back....

So... I have bought iClone5 Pro and will probably buy 3DX5 Pipeline this evening.

P.S. - iClone can also import SketchUp files.

P.P.S - MakeHuman is also shaping up to be a very useful tool for character creation for non artists and it is free and Opensource.

You will see, it was not easier make nice animation for your games.

Good news> At the moment is RL working for the xchange pipeline, that also make it possible to export bone facial animation .

Great,

The first thing I did was to record my voice and watch the Ben Stiller look alike say my words back to me. It makes animation fun!

Cinema 4d native export can be imported into Ultimate Unwrap then exported to the 3 animation formats allowed by Coppercube.

.ms3d, .x , .b3d

I'm researching every possible import export route. Soon I will have a huge PDF on the subject what works and what doesn't.

Yes how far off are we from seeing a .fbx importer for animation?

Or even a .bvh importer? That way all iclone animations will come directly straight in..... No need for milkshape or ultimate unwrap conversions! I also Hear that the .x file format is a dead or dying animation format. It can't support directx 10 or 11 ... So that doesn't leave many animation file formats. Only fbx, collada (future), and the community driven .ms3d, .bvh and .b3d file formats. Well there is another but .dpm still needs .b3d for conversion......what to do ?
