@marigold123 is a spam, don't click on the link.

I don't think there are really native CC solutions for the things I mentioned, they are just missing features. I did managed to have point lights effecting lightmapped geometry by using B3D format:
https://www.ambiera.com/forum.ph...

...and @j9907 managed to have multiple directional lights in a level, but that's about it. Except for external dlls and injectors I don't think there's anything else that can be done. We just have to work with what's there & maybe implement native features if/when Niko implements them :)

I've tried Godot, it's not so bad in my opinion but if I'm gonna go for complicated & not enjoyable development tools than I'm gonna go for Unity or Unreal. The main reason I'm using CC is because I enjoy working in it, it's just a pleasant process. And the engine does produce great results in those areas that it's meant to be productive. I can't make it render hair or DOF but what it can render it's fine :)

I still have a great feeling when I click on CC icon & editor opens in less than 2 sec :) With Unity I need at least 2min for anything to open or close :)

manzaiman Is Right, It should be Opensource Every could Edit the Source & make available for Community, It would be so Great.

If You people Don't Like UI (User-Interface) of Godot its your choice. You can Learn from Mistakes of Other Big Softwares & make Coppercube standout in its field. As manzaiman said Opensource Software Get more donation than Any Premium Software Revenue. As he gave example of Godot its revenue is so high.

Blender Opensource Software Created by volunteers around the world & its Donation for its latest version (2.8) is $ 17521.65 / month

-Thanks

There are so many open source game engines out there that it is now a tough competition if you want your project or product to stand out.

3 simple steps..

1. Release all the code at GitHub
2. Open up a Patreon page to start accepting donations.
3. Keep the Steam store page to maintain visibility with links to the platforms above.

aside from being active in social media sites, you don't wanna go slacking off after those steps, unless it spreads like wildfire through wom/active users.

Now it looks like Godot is now at 8k monthly with their donations. wow

Yes, londonhearts. & I assert that Coppercube will gain success so fast....

Godothave Estimated 160K Gamedevs (Only on Steam):

Please Niko tell your Opinion about this. If CC is your Earning source it wouldn't go anywhere instead your Revenue will Increase Drastically I bet. If you not believe me take a search in Google about Opensource Software + You can earn from DVD Sales, Its developed games, & some Addons; As CC users will increase your sale will Increase too. I Hope you would take a look at this post....

Open-sourcing the engine is an interesting idea. I know GameGuru did this earlier this year and I'm sure they've seen a bevvy of improvements since that happened and they still sell the engine on Steam (which, in Niko's case, the base engine is free to use).

What I think would be more feasible for him is if he discontinued the Studio edition and released the client source and posted it to GitHub for those who want it. Now that'd be money out of his pocket but who knows? Perhaps studios will take a more serious look at the engine since I'd guess people would write the engine off as a toy and mere gimmick when in fact it's quite capable!

This Community has some Good programmers for example like; just-in-case
& if CC would be Opensource he could Edit the source & add necessary feature that's currently unavailable & give the feature source code so it could be easily added to next release. As doing the Software Open-Source the users will increase & community will gain software developers that would volunteer CC To stand out.

Hi,

I ran a popular open source 3D engine a "few" years ago, it was named Irrlicht (it still exists, but I'm not working on that anymore). It was one of the most popular open source 3D engines around 2003-2008, so I have a bit experience with that, and there are various reasons why I won't open source CopperCube anytime soon, sorry.

yes agk (tgc) already opened up their source code, but not free same as unreal, only you need to own or buy a license first which is alright priced.

2003-2008, that was more than a decade ago. times have greatly changed in terms of opensource and social media. (github, patreon, kickstarter)

ex. crowdfunding wasnt even a thing back then

curious about what those various reasons are

godot certainly does not have them and they are more than fine.

anyway you got your reasons and i hope they would worked out eventually.

thanks for the free version

@Niko I didn't realize you were the founder of IrrLicht engine, he was really, really popular back in 2006. The name CopperLicht always sounded similar to IrrLicht but I thought maybe you liked the engine and maybe based some of it's code on it, something like that.

He was hand to hand in popularity with 3DGameStudio, GameMaker, Torque, Ogre...

And I always loved the meaning behind the name: "will-o'-the-wisp, the ghostly light sometimes seen at night over bogs and swamps" :)

I don't know if you ever written an article about IrrLicht, why & how you developed it, why you decided to leave it, would like to read that story.

I wrote a lot about that on my blog, but it is probably buried by all the hundrets of other articles. Yes, CopperLicht is named like that, because its API is very similar to the one I created for Irrlicht. :)
