So, I tried using CopperCube...

I tried getting into Coppercube, but stopped after multiple attempts. The UI seems simple at first, but it turns out it's bad and there's so much that ruins the workflow. I haven't installed version 6.4 yet, if nothing has changed regarding the UI, I hope that improving it will be one of the priorities in a future version:

Moving around objects or manipulating them with the x/y/z arrows is a hassle. I wish I could click and drag objects around like in 3D design software.

Despite using the grid add-on, the objects don't align. Of course this is due to the size of the objects (I download ones from free sources), if I set the distance to 1 and the objects are like 0.8 big, they will obviously not align. But even if I adjust their size to 1.2 they still don't align perfectly, because the size numbers are calculated differently from the grid numbers.

Zooming in and out is absolutely tedious. Everytime I turn the mouse wheel, it only zooms a few pixels in or out and I frantically keep turning the mouse wheel for seconds until I see the whole scene or a detail.

Putting plain colours on objects is not possible, everything has to be done using textures.

don't know why you hate the UI, but as far as I had used 3D tools and software they all provide the 3 Axis to drag and move the object around in the scene.

You can always right-click and slide your mouse back and forth to zoom in and zoom out, no need to use the scroll to zoom in and zoom out.

You should try the plugin by @Just_in_case that snaps an object to another object instead of Grid, you are a right snap to grid is not according to the scale(size) of the object.

You can always set vertex color for any object, also You can once again download the shaders by @Just_in_case to color your objects without having the textures solid color textures for the object.

to download the plugin and action you can visit his website https://neophyte.cf

I am trying to contribute whatever I can, I am not that smart with languages and coding like the others out there.

Also, I personally recommend you install the keyboard shortcuts installer by @Just_in_case to ease out your work with the UI, the installer will add shortcuts for almost everything and will make the workflow a bit faster.

regarding the click and drag feature for moving in the editor, I hope someone will make a plugin for that as well.

"Moving around objects or manipulating them with the x/y/z arrows is a hassle. I wish I could click and drag objects around like in 3D design software."

You can make moving objects with the x/y/z less of a hassle by changing the origin of the object in a 3D design software.

"Despite using the grid add-on, the objects don't align. This probably has to do with the models you are using and not CC. I can perfectly align everything I use in CC, but I open the models in Blender and scale them to CC-friendly measurements first. I use the grid add-on, too.

"Zooming in and out is absolutely tedious. Everytime I turn the mouse wheel, it only zooms a few pixels in or out and I frantically keep turning the mouse wheel for seconds until I see the whole scene or a detail."

I hold the right mouse button and move the mouse forward or back to zoom in or out.

"Putting plain colours on objects is not possible, everything has to be done using textures."

CC has built-in support for vertex colors. Right click on object > Modify selection > Set vertex colors.

i have had similar problems,

i think they come from small video memory and crappy video drivers.
maybe you are using an old antique video card ?

you can correct problem somewhat by playing with the render settings for the editor;

DX7,8,9
WebGL 1,2,3
OpenGL 1,2,2.1
Software rendering

You can always right-click and slide your mouse back and forth to zoom in and zoom out, no need to use the scroll to zoom in and zoom out.

I don't find this to be intuitive. Left click and drag to rotate the scene, then right click to zoom, then again left click... I prefer using the scroll wheel.

to download the plugin and action you can visit his website https://neophyte.cf

Thanks for that tip, though I'd rather see these things being included in CC directly.

I don't want to switch back and forth between programs. Besides, I don't have 3d modeling software, I download premade assets.

CC has built-in support for vertex colors. Right click on object > Modify selection > Set vertex colors.

That's a function one has to find first. Adding such a function to the material or textures tab would be more ideal.

nice card, particular later more energy efficient editions.

thumbs up

annyway coppercube is not a very demanding program unlike the big titles.

but needs modern 2.1 webGL

that my atom machine lacks.

Yeah, to some people the UI controls are terrible. But that's not a good reason to not use this engine at all.
For example many people wants to have wasd movement in the 3D viewport instead of arrow keys.

Its totally on the user preferences that makes the UI bad or good. But the engine has been improoved a lot since version 6.0

You can't do much for the editor, but yeah the scripting provide some sort of functionality to create for the editor as well.

Will see if we will be able to improve the UI functionality with plugins and all.

If you've adjusted the size of your models (after import to coppercube) but want them to be the same "scale" as everything else - you need to right click your model and select "Normalise scale". Then everything will be the same scale.

This is due to people making models with various modelling software, at different scales. This problem will be the same with ANY 3D application, it's not specific to Coppercube - but atleast coppercube allows a simple 1-click solution to set everything to the same scale.

This solution won't work with animated models because it would destroy the animation - so in that case, you'd need to use 3D animation software to reset the scale (prior to import to Coppercube).
