For basic editing, I recommend using Windows Movie Maker and iMovie. Both are pretty straightforward and great for beginners. I have a bigger experience with iMovie, and if you are a Mac user, you don't need any other video editing apps. Currently, I'm using Movavi for editing my family holiday videos. It has a very intuitive and pleasant interface. One feature I appreciate a lot is its ability to merge videos – it's super simple and hassle-free.
